Chiropractic FAQs
IS CHIROPRACTIC SAFE? Chiropractic is so safe that the costs for malpractice insurance for the doctor are less than the costs for minimal car insurance for a safe driver. You would have a greater chance of getting struck by lightning or winning the lottery than having a stroke or neurological consequence as a result of a chiropractic adjustment. According to The Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, June 1998, The risk of a neurological complication from a chiropractic adjustment for children is 1 in 250 million. The odds of winning the Mega-Million Jackpot is 1 in 176 Million! According to Dr Haldeman, MD, DC, PhD, The Risk of Stroke following a Chiropractic Adjustment is 1 in One Million, you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning.
COMPARED TO MEDICAL CARE: "The risk of death from Anesthesia is 1 in 1000." (Chapman-Smith, The Chiro Report, May 1994).
"Tylenol kills more people than cocaine!" (Jan. 12, 1998, Forbes Magazine, J&J's Dirty Little Secret).
"40,000 deaths per year in Canada from medical mistakes." (Macleans, Aug 13, 2001).
"180,000 deaths per year occur from medical mistakes-the equivalent of 3 jumbo jet crashes every 2 days in America."
Dr. Lucien Leape, Harvard School of Public Health - JAMA, Dec 21, 1994
ONCE I GO TO THE CHIROPRACTOR DO I HAVE TO GO FOREVER? The goal of Specific Chiropractic is to get your nervous system to function properly. This is achieved by the checking of your nervous system and not always adjusting you. Once you get to a stable point where you are holding the adjustment well and have had satisfactory improvement according to the doctor, you would then be recommended for a maintenance schedule of having your nervous system checked every so often. At the point of maintenance care, it is very easy to continue to build health with very few office visits and less cost to you. Of course the choice to continue care is up to you. 9 out of 10 of our patients do continue care because it just makes sense to keep their nervous system functioning at it's optimal level with much less effort and cost.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Specific Chiropractic Care is not cheap, but when compared to other options such as medical care it becomes quite affordable. For example the cost for a Cervical Spine MRI at the hospital down the block from us is $2,100.00. This is for a 45 minute test that many times does not find the cause of the problem, merely the effects. Even if they were to find something that they can treat, that cost is additional for that care. A spinal surgery can be estimated anywhere from $20,000.00 to $100,000.00 and has about a 5% success rate, with most people needing additional surgeries in the near future. So far, we have not had 1 patient that "needed surgery" who followed our recommendations have to go for spinal surgery and our costs are a small fraction of what surgery costs. Of course all patients are different and require different attention and care and therefore costs do vary. You will know your full costs and payment options by your 3rd visit after you have had your consultation and examination as well as your first adjustment in most cases. The Doctor needs to determine what sort of shape you have gotten yourself into and what needs to be done to help you.
DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE? Although we are not contracted with any one insurance, we can help you get the necessary paperwork together to send in to them for maximum reimbursement. The insurance companies are money people not health people, they do not know what is wrong with you or how to help you, so we choose not to participate. As Dr BJ Palmer used to say: "Chiropractic IS Health Insurance, Premiums Small and Dividends Large."
If a patient truly wants to get well under Dr Arnone's Specific Care, we can usually make it work financially as we have flexible payment options available.
CAN DR ARNONE HELP ME WITH MY ...? Upper Cervical Specific Care is not a treatment for any particular health condition other than the detection and correction of nervous system interference at the level of the brainstem. Since your brainstem runs and controls all function in your body it is very possible that the subluxation is causing your abnormal function to occur. Therefore, the correction of your subluxation is what allows your body to finally have proper function restored and truly heal itself. We have seen many different conditions corrected either at our office or from one of our mentors including abnormal function of organs and glands in children and adults resulting in various health conditions. One area in which Dr Arnone would like to pursue is in the area of Terminally Ill Pediatric Patients. A child with a failing kidney or liver for example, may die waiting for an organ from a donor that never comes. If we can restore brain to liver or brain to kidney then the child's own organ or gland can regain proper function and heal. This is far better than putting in someone else's liver for example only for that one to break down because the cause has not been addressed.
